To provide a light guide plate which generates the required planar beam of light using the incident point-like light source, while reducing sizes and weights of the display device and lighting device.
The light guide plate has a main emitting plane and a main reflection plane provided opposite to each other, as well as a reflection side surface for reflecting a beam of light incoming almost linearly from a point-like light source toward the main reflection plane so that a beam of light with the planar light emitting distribution may be ejected from the main emitting plane. A linear beam of light from the point-like light source can spread up to a planar beam of light by means of double-reflection using the reflection side surface and main reflection plane, thereby ejecting the effective planar beam of light.
