To provide a light source device that can prevent broken pieces and enclosed mercury from dispersing to the outside simply and cheaply when the tube explodes.
This light source device has a front opening 3a and a inner surface formed into a curvature closed toward the other end. The device is equipped with a glass reflector 3 that contains recessed space 2 where a reflecting film 6 is formed on the inner surface, an ultra-high pressure mercury lamp 5 having a tube 11 that is arranged on an optical axis which is in the center of the recessed space 2 and filled with discharged gas and explosion proof glass 4 that is arranged in the front opening 3a of the recessed space 2 and seals the recessed space 2 up and can transmit light reflected by the reflecting film 6, wherein the outer surface 3c of the reflector 3 is coated with a dispersion proof film 16 that has transmissivity transmitting visible light and infrared light, compression strength larger than the base material of the reflector 3 and heat resistance.
