To provide a lightning arrester capable of improving lightning strike shield factor with an easy method and without modifying an existing steel tower for single wire.
A lightning arrester 2 is installed so as to cross an overhead earth wire 1 and arranged such that each of both end parts 2a of the lightning arrester 2 faces a power transmission line 3. As a result, the lightning arrester functions as if the overhead earth wire exists at a position facing the power transmission line 3. Furthermore, both end parts 2a of the lightning arrester 2 extend ideally up to a position where a shield angle becomes 0 degree or less. However, lightning strike shield factor can be increased only by bringing the shield angle as close as possible to 0(zero) degree.
