Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTROOPTICAL DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3135724
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To perform liquid crystal display with high gradation by supplying specific charge quantity that is the product of spontaneous polarization and a picture element area in liquid crystal to a picture element electrode, and holding it so as not to change until next charge supply.
CONSTITUTION: A thin film transistor TET consists of a source part 140 on a signal supply side, a drain part 141 connected to a liquid crystal picture element, and a gate part 142 which controls potential difference between a source and a drain. The terminal on the other side of the picture element electrode is grounded 144 ordinarily. When an operation is performed, a constant voltage is supplied to the source part 140. The gate is turned on by applying the voltage in such state, and resistance between the source and the drain is decreased, and prescribed charge is supplied to the picture element electrode connected to the drain part 141. After the charge is supplied, the gate is turned off, and a resistance value between the source and the drain is increased by four to eight times that in an on-state. The picture element electrode is set in an open state essentially, and the potential of the electrode can be held as it is.
