To provide a method for feeding nutrients through a tube for a long term to a patient requiring the same, more specifically, to provide a method and a composition for feeding nutrients for a long term to elderly patients.
A composition comprises: a source of protein composing 14 to 20% of a product based on caloric content; a source of carbohydrates composing 10 to 45% of the product based on caloric content; a source of lipids composing 30 to 45% of the product based on caloric content; a source of dietary fiber that provides 10 to 25 grams per liter of the composition and that contains both soluble fiber and insoluble fiber, and in which at least 25 wt.% of the fiber is soluble; 8.0-18.0 μg of chromium per 100 kcal of the composition; and minerals and vitamins satisfying a government regulation, wherein not less than 50 wt.% of the source of protein is milk serum protein, the source of lipids comprises 40-60 wt.% of a monounsaturated fatty acid and 0.4-2.0 wt.% of EPA, and not greater than 1.1 g of a saturated fatty acid per 100 kcal of the composition.
