A machine tool for the cutting work of a plurality of work pieces 56 has a tool spindle 14 and a work piece spindle 26. The work piece spindle 26 is a hollow spindle having a passage opening 64. According to one aspect of the invention, the work piece 56 held in a clamping mechanism 52 of the work piece spindle 26 can be machined through the passage opening 64 by means of the machining tool 16 arranged in the tool spindle 14.
