To increase the surface recording density on a recording medium by reducing the track width while preventing the reduction in the intensity of a magnetic field generated by the magnetic poles of a magnetic head.

The recording medium has a disk shape, and a plurality of circular tracks 20 arrayed at specified cycles. The magnetic head is provided with a medium facing surface opposed to the recording medium, and a magnetic pole 10 for generating a magnetic field from an end arranged in the medium surface in order to record information in the recording medium. The pole width PW of the magnetic pole 10 is larger than the cycle TP of the track 20 of the recording medium. The recording of the information in the recording medium is carried out by moving a magnetic head position in a direction along the track 20 with respect to the recording medium. After the end of recording in one track 20, the magnetic head is moved by the cycle TP of the track 20, and recording is carried out in a next track 20.
