PURPOSE: To reduce an iron loss by providing a scratch in the width direction of a metal alloy thin strip.
CONSTITUTION: In case of polishing an alloy thin strip, the thin strip 1 wound on a thin strip reel is imparted with a constant tension by a tension controller 22, brought into contact with the peripheral face upper part of a rotating grindstone 31 in the opposite direction to the moving direction of the face to be polished of the thin strip, that is in the left direction 52, along the transfer pass 4 thereof, and the back face 1a thereof is polished. In succession it is brought into contact with the peripheral face lower part of the grindstone 32 rotated in the opposite direction to the moving direction of the face to be polished of the thin strip, i.e., the right direction 53, the surface 1b thereof is polished and it is wound on a winding reel 42. Thus, the scratch in the width direction is formed over the whole body in the length direction of the thin strip 1 and the iron loss thereof is reduced.
