PURPOSE: A device which ensures that, when a heavy body cover is fitted in a container such as of a feed water heater or removed from the container, the work is safe and can be completed in a short time by a small number of persons who need not be skilled in the art.
CONSTITUTION: A first rotating means is provided with a rod member 3 which removably pivots the outside surface of a manhole cover 1 and can be rotated about its axis by use of an adjusting nut 12. A second rotating means is connected to a portion of the outside surface of the manhole cover 1 different from the pivot point and is moved back and forth through the functions of an operating rod 13, universal joints 10aW10c, and connection head 14 so as to rotate the cover 1 about the pivot point. The first and second rotating means are supported by a support means consisting of a cylindrical frame 11 and rod supports 19a and 19b, and the whole device is moved back and forth.
