To obtain a matted electrodeposition coating material capable of providing an excellent matted electrodeposition appearance, excellent in coating properties and containing aqueous microgel, and further to provide a method for carrying out the electrodeposition thereof.

This matted electrodeposition coating material comprises a resin composition obtained by neutralizing a mixture of (A) an acryl resin obtained by copolymerizing (a) an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, (b) a β-methyl-substituted glycidyl (meth)acrylate, and (c) other α,β-ethylenically unsaturated monomers with (B) an amino resin by a base to provide an aqueous resin dispersion, and heating and reacting the obtained aqueous resin dispersion.
