To provide a rapier loom adapted to loom operation from a low to an ultrahigh speed, precisely inserting a weft yarn, carrying out weaving of a high-quality woven fabric and accurately operating a holding lever without causing a mistake in holding of the weft yarn.
A mechanism for holding and driving a weft yarn of the rapier loom is adopted as follows. A yarn pressing part at the tip facing to a yarn holding part of a rapier head is extended and the weft yarn can be nipped between the yarn pressing part and the yarn holding part when the yarn pressing part is conjoined with the yarn holding part and shaken. The yarn pressing part is composed by including a shaking holding lever shaking in the direction to separate from the yarn holding part when a rear action point conversely receives force to open the weft yarn during nipping and a direct acting actuator composed of a laminated piezoelectric element acting on the action point of the shaking holding lever, instantaneously extended, contracted and displaced under a voltage applied according to the set crank angle of the main shaft of the rapier loom, acting on the action point of the shaking holding lever and thereby separating the yarn pressing part from the yarn holding part in a hook part.
