PURPOSE: To control automatically oscillation width according to a change in a groove spacing by calculating electrically welding conditions in the stage of welding.
CONSTITUTION: When welding is started, the timing at which the oscillation width in a direction X is zero is detected. The detected data, welding current Ia, the effective value Ie of the welding current, the feed speed V of a wire and the distance V between a chip 4 and a material 8 to be welded is sampled and the distance L between the chip 4 and the material 8 is determined. When next sampling time comes, the data are taken in and the distance L is calculated. The average value L'm of one cycle of the oscillation in the direction X is calculated and is compared with the set value Ld of a setter 33. A vertical moving device 22 is moved until L'm=Ld is attained.
