Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stably secure the dimensional accuracy of the outer peripheral length of a honeycomb structure obtained by laminating flat and corrugated plates and winding them up in a cylindrical form.

CONSTITUTION: In processes of laminating flat and corrugated plates and winding them up in a cylindrical form, a residual length lN is calculated by the following equation (1) to obtain a target outer peripheral length by using a target outer peripheral length lo, a wound up thickness t, a flat plate length li equivalent to one round and this is used as control commands to operate a winding up mandrel and related instruments. The honeycomb structure with satisfactory dimensional accuracy of the outer peripheral length can be wound up by using an inexpensive and simple winding up control means, and when this is combined integrally with an outer cylinder, the yield of nondefectives is improved and mass productivity can be realized easily. The equation (1) is shown in the caption.
