To provide a method for displaying program information, with which processing loads can be reduced, and a television receiver for displaying the program information.

The program information included in television signals tuned by a tuning part 11 is stored in a program information storage part 15, and a program guide indicating program names included in the respective program information of a plurality of programs is displayed at a video display part 18. By a cursor moving operation received by an operation part 23, one program at which a cursor is positioned is specified from among the plurality of programs. When the cursor is stopped, a CPU 19 makes a timer 20 clock the cursor stop time. When the stop time exceeds the prescribed time, the CPU 19 reads the program information of the program specified by the cursor from the program information storage part 15, and displays it in an area different from the area where the program guide is displayed on the display screen of the video display part 18. When the cursor starts to move before exceeding the prescribed time, the CPU 19 does not display the program information.
