PURPOSE: To make it possible to form a hole in the transverse direction at the same time as molding of a molded item by providing a transverse punch which can be forwarded and retreated in the transverse direction on the outer mold of a mold and moving back and forth the transverse punch under a condition where a powder is compressed.

CONSTITUTION: A defined amt. of a specified powder is filled into the inside of an outer mold 6 by means of a feeder. At this time, a transverse punch 9 is retreated from the inside of the outer mold 6 to the outer direction. Then, an upper punch is pushed down by means of a piston 4 of a press machine and the powder is compressed at a specified compressing force between the upper punch and a lower punch 2. Then, under a condition where the pressure caused by these upper and lower punches 1 and 2 is kept const., an auxiliary piston 18 of a press machine is lowered and a roller 16 is pushed down to slide a pin fixing stage 11 in the direction around the center of the outer mold 6 by action of a cam and to drive the transverse punch 9 in the central direction of the molded body S from the periphery of the outer mold 6. Thereafter, the upper punch 1 and the auxiliary piston 18 (the roller 16) are returned to their original positions to form a transverse hole A.
