To provide a method of joining an electrode and a stub, which reduces misalignment between the electrode and the base line of the stub, generated when using welding upon attachment the stub to a consumable electrode used in a remelting furnace, and eliminates the need of changing procedures for each steel grade.

The method includes: calculating, from the outer diameter and length of the electrode 3, the weight of the electrode 3 and a moment to be applied to a joint surface of the stub 2; determining the diameter and number of bolts 10 from those values; providing an integrated flange 9 for attaching the bolts on a lower end surface 2b of the stub 2; fastening and joining, after forming screw holes on an upper end surface of the electrode 3, the stub 2 to the electrode 3 through a copper packing 8 by the bolts 10.
