To increase the melting amount of a cold iron source per unit time without changing capability of a heating device when the cold iron source is melted using heat of molten iron stored in a molten iron storing furnace including the heating device.
In this method of melting a cold iron source, molten iron 6 is delivered from a molten iron storing furnace 1 including a groove type induction heating device 5 to a molten iron receiving vessel 9 having a cold iron source 10 previously stored therein in a refining plant and used in the refining plant, and the cold iron source preheated by potential heat of the molten iron receiving vessel is melted by the heat of the molten iron delivered from the molten iron storing furnace. In this case, it is preferable that the temperature of the molten iron when delivered from the molten iron storing furnace is adjusted to a temperature ≥1,370°C by the groove type induction heating device, and the storing amount of the cold iron source into the molten iron receiving vessel is set ≤36 kg per ton of the molten iron to be delivered.
