PURPOSE: To mold a plastic lens having a precise large aperture in a short time by molding a plastic lens using, as a material, a plastic lens blank having been formed into approximately a final shape.
CONSTITUTION: A plastic lens blank having been formed into approximately a final shape is transferred by means of a transfer device 1 into an electric furnace 3 which has been controlled to a predetermined temperature by means of a temperature controller 8, wherein the blank is heated for a predetermined period and then is held between an upper mold 5 and a lower mold 6 in a molding room 4. The plastic lens blank is molded under predetermined pressure between the molds 5 and 6 which are controlled by means of temperature controllers 9 and 10, while the molds 5 and 6 are cooled gradually. In the cooling process of the molds 5 and 6, when the temperature of the molds has reached Tg of the material, they are cooled at a faster rate and thereafter the blank is separated from the molds and carried out from the molding room 4. In this manner, molding of the plastic lens having a large aperture is completed.
