To provide a method for oxidizing a cycloalkane by which the corresponding ketones, alcohols, hydroperoxides and carboxylic acids are produced with good selectivity by oxidizing the cycloalkane with oxygen according to a method with excellent productivity and safety.
The method for oxidizing the cycloalkane is a method to react the cycloalkane with the oxygen in the presence of a cobalt compound and a ruthenium aliphatic carboxylate compound. The ruthenium aliphatic carboxylate compound has ≤1 peak area ratio (peak area of the aliphatic carboxylic acid without binding to the ruthenium/peak area of the aliphatic carboxylic acid bound to the ruthenium) of the peak area of an infrared absorption spectrum derived from a carbonyl group of the aliphatic carboxylic acid without binding to the ruthenium to the peak area of the infrared absorption spectrum derived from the carbonyl group of the aliphatic carboxylic acid bound to the ruthenium.
