To provide a method for efficiently producing banana fibers used for clothes and capable of being substituted for fiber raw materials (linen, cotton and the like) worried about the exhaustion of the resources from banana pseudo-stems of industrial waste as a raw material, to provide a fiber structure or blended yarn produced by blending the banana fibers obtained by the production method with other fibers, and to provide a light fiber structure excellent in hygroscopicity, bulkiness and touches such as dry touch.
The method for producing the banana fibers obtained from pseudo-stems peeled from banana plant belonging to Musaceae and having an average fiber length of 10 to 50 mm and an average fineness of 0.5 to 80 dtex, includes (a) a step of peeling vaginas constituting the pseudo-stems from the pseudo-stems, (b) a step of peeling skins holding fiber bundles constituting the vaginas from the surfaces of the vaginas to obtain the fiber bundles, (c) a step of drying the fiber bundles, (d) a step of degumming and dividing the dried fiber bundles, and (e) a step of short-cutting the fiber bundles to obtain staple fibers, before or after the step of degumming and dividing.
