The method for producing the nitro-substituted, nitroso- substituted or azoxy-substituted aromatic compound comprises carrying out a reaction between the amino-substituted aromatic compound and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst which is prepared by reaction between hydrogen peroxide and at least one substance selected from the group consisting of metallic tungsten, metallic molybdenum, a tungsten compound made from tungsten and a group IIIb, IVb, Vb, or VIb element (except oxygen) and a molybdenum compound made from molybdenum and a group IIIb, IVb, Vb or VIb element (except oxygen).
