Abstract:
PURPOSE: To stabilize the state of crimp of keratin substance of animal fibers by subjecting a vinyl monomer to graft polymerization by the use of a thiol group.
CONSTITUTION: Crimp of a keratin substance of animal fibers having crimp is stabilized by introducing a thiol group to the surface of fibers or the interior of fibers by a silane coupling agent to bond the thiol group to the keratin substance and subjecting a hydrophilic or hydrophobic monomer to graft polymerization onto the keratin substance having the bonded thiol group in the presence of a persulfate ion.
