Abstract:

To provide a method for stopping a steel material, which can prevent the steel material from being scratched when stopping the movement of the steel material, and a conveying device for the steel material.

The steel material 16 is placed and conveyed on a group of rollers. When the front end of the steel material 16 conveyed from the upper stream passes a base point 30, the group of rollers lowers from an ascending position to a descending position. Each variable bridge 34 moves to a closing position so that the matching space S is closed, and a braking plane 36 is formed with a second braking section 28 and the variable bridge 34. At this time the steel material 16 is transferred from a steel material placement plane 24 of the group of rollers to the braking plane 36 while the steel material 16 remains a required speed. When the rear end of the steel material 16 passes the base point 30, the braking table 26 comes to a tilting posture because the lower stream side of the braking table 26 is pushed up, with the base point 30 as a tilting center, whereby downward force along the tilted braking plane 36 acts on the steel material 16 sliding on the braking plane 36 of the braking table 26 in addition to braking force owing to friction between the braking plane 36 and the steel material 16 so that the movement of the steel material 16 stops.
