Title:
METHOD OF SURFACE-MODIFYING POLYMERIC MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3234721
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To achieve the modification of the surface properties of a polymeric material and the improvement in its dyeability, more particularly to modify the surface properties of a polyolefin material, a polyvinyl chloride material, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride or the like without detriment to its strengths.
CONSTITUTION: The method essentially consists of the steps of a surface activation treatment and grafting a vinyl monomer onto the polymer. The activation treatment is selected from among an ozone treatment, a plasma treatment, a corona discharge treatment, a high-voltage discharge treatment, an ultraviolet irradiation treatment and other surface activation treatments. It is possible to use ultraviolet irradiation or a catalyst to effect the grafting. When an amide compound is used as the grafting compound, the surface of the polymeric material can be further surface-modified by subjecting the amide group of the grafting compound to the Hofmann rearrangement.
