To provide effective feed system and method used for introducing slurry of ground cellulosic fiber material into a treating tank.
A feed system 111 of a cellulose pulp treating tank (e.g. continuous type digesting can) is kept so as not to be restricted to required L/W ratio of a pump 121 for feeding wood chip slurry 113 to a high-pressure transfer apparatus. Since the feed system 111 can be kept to low temperature, flashing of the liquid to steam can minimally be controlled. A return conduit extending from the treating tank to high-pressure inlet 126 of the high-pressure feeder 124 can be made unnecessary. The liquid is pulled out from the slurry immediately before low-pressure inlet 123 to the transfer apparatus 124 and/or immediately after high-pressure outlet 127 to reduce L/W ratio of slurry at least by 0.25. For example, the L/W of the slurry is reduced to (3.0/1) to (2.25/1) immediately before low-pressure inlet and reduced to (7.0/1) to (5.0/1) substantially immediately after high-pressure outlet 127.
