To provide a moisture-absorbing or releasing staple fiber non-woven fabric, excellent in a moisture-absorbing or releasing property, having large strength, good dimensional stability and rich flexibility, not discoloring, even when used for a long period, excellent in weather resistance, and suitable as a raw material for, for example, disposable sanitary materials, general living- related materials, or partial industrial materials.
This non-woven fabric comprises sheath-core type conjugate structure staple fibers comprising a polyamide or a polyester as the sheath component and a polyalkylene oxide modified product singly or a mixture of the polyalkylene oxide modified product with a polyamide or polyester as the core component, and is partially heated and pressure-fused or subjected to an inter-fiber three-dimensional interlacing treatment to retain a prescribed shape. The polyalkylene oxide modified product is prepared by reacting a polyalkylene oxide and a polyol with a symmetrical aliphatic isocyanate compound.
