Title:
MOLDING METHOD FOR CATALYST LAYER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2783021
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To impart mechanically sufficient characteristics to the catalyst layer without lowering its activity by charging the powder of catalyst or catalyst carrier powder into a casting mold, then injecting the melt of a metal constituting a catalyst supporting material and solidifying the molten metal under pressurization.
CONSTITUTION: The powder 5 of the catalyst or catalyst carrier is placed in a laminar form on the bottom plate 1 of a die 2 and the melt 4 of the metal to constitute the catalyst supporting material is poured thereon. A punch 3 is then lowered to mold and solidify the molten metal while the molten metal is pressurized by an oil pressure. The metal joins the catalyst or catalyst carrier by penetrating and solidifying into and on the spacings and surface of the powder, by which the catalyst or catalyst carrier layer integral with the catalyst supporting material is molded. Since the fine pores of the powder 5 are not closed, there are no hindrances in catalyst activity. Since the melt 4 of the metal fills the gaps among the particles of the powder 5, the mechanical supporting power is obtd.
