To provide a molten metal purification apparatus and a purification method therefor which can stably purify a molten metal containing inclusions at high purification efficiency.
The molten metal purification apparatus is provided with: an electric field generation means 12 where a plurality of electrode pairs are arranged so as to be contacted with a molten metal; and a magnetic field generation means 11, wherein electromagnetic force is acted on a molten metal 10, inclusions are separated away from the molten metal by an electromagnetic Archimedes effect so as to purify the molten metal. It is preferable that, to the plurality of electrode pairs, potential is applied, respectively independently, thus electromagnetic force in the proper value to the molten metal 10 can be acted over a wide range. Further, each electrode may have a planar shape, a bent plate shape or a point shape, and further, the electrode pairs may be arranged so as to be confronted each other or be a staggered state along the flow of the molten metal 10.
