Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of deformation and fracture loss by using a high toughness alloyed cast steel of specific composition as a material for a spool for coiling a strip of aluminum, copper, stainless steel, etc.

CONSTITUTION: A cast steel has a composition consisting of, by weight ratio, 0.6-0.88% C, 0.5-1.5% Si, 0.5-1.5% Mn, ≤2.0% Ni, 7.0-16.0% Cr, 0.3-3.0% Mo, 0.2-1.0% V, and the balance essentially Fe. This cast steel has a structure in which large amounts of crystallized substances are contained in an (Fe.Cr)7C3 type iron-chromium-carbide steel matrix having extremely high compressive yield stress and produces superior deformation resistance. Simultaneously, high toughness can be obtained because C content is limited to match strength with elongation in the matrix. Usually, a spool is formed by means of centrifugal casting and than a heat treatment consisting of hardening from a temp. higher than the A3 point and tempering at 500-600°C is done, by which ≥1% elongation and ≥1000kgf/mm2 compressive proof stress can be provided.
