Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer having high clarity, oxygen permeability, and hydrophilicity by polymerizing a monomer which is prepared by reacting a specific compound with a compound having a C-C unsaturated bond.
SOLUTION: A compound of formula I is subjected to addition reaction with compound of formula II to give a compound of formula III, which is reacted with a compound having a C-C unsaturated bond to give a monomer of formula IV. This monomer in an amount of 30-100 wt.%, a monomer copolymerizable therewith, and at least 0.1 wt.% monomer having at least two copolymerizable C-C unsaturated bonds are copolymerized in the presence of a peroxide initiator and an azo initiator having a 10 hr half-life temperature of 40-120°C, thus giving a polymer having a dynamic contact angle with pure water of 100° or lower, a water content of 3-50 wt.%, and an oxygen permeability index of 6×1011 or higher. In the formulas, A is siloxanyl; X is a group havig a C-C unsaturated bond; G1 and G2 are each H or an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group; and n is 1-10.
