Abstract:

To detect the failure of a dynamic brake circuit without addition of a contact signal and a control circuit.

A motor drive 1 has a dynamic brake circuit 5 that generates decelerating torque by the power generating brake of a synchronous motor 4 when it has intercepted the excitation of the synchronous motor 4. The motor drive has: a dynamic brake circuit failure detecting function; a DC power supply 2, which is obtained by rectifying input AC power; voltage application means 2, 3, 10 and 11, which apply voltages to the coils of the synchronous motor 4 and the dynamic brake circuit 5 for a specified time by the switching of power transistors A-F connected to the DC power supply 2; a DC detecting means 6, which detects the values of currents that flow out of the power transistors A-F; and a failure decision means 11, which determines the existence of the failure of the dynamic brake circuit 5 from the current value detected by the current detecting means 6 and a preset threshold.
