PURPOSE: To provide a gas cooking assembly responsive quickly to energy variation of a burner over a wide control range and ensuring high safety through a simple structure having totally reduced height.

CONSTITUTION: A gas cooking assembly includes at least one gas-fired burner 12 having a burner chamber 6 and a burner plate 5 made of fiber material wherein the burner is arranged below a cooking plate 2 made of glass ceramic, or the like. Control units 15 are provided for metering gas as well as conventional ignition units, safety units and temperature monitoring units. Exhaust gas channels conduct away combustion gases. A blower brings additional air to the burner plate. The blower and control unit are located in a space 9 wherein an overpressure is maintained and the space 9 is connected via a mixing pipe 13 to the burner chamber 6 and to the atmosphere.
