In the muffler for a vehicle, the sound absorbing member 8 and the partition walls 6, 7 are arranged in the tubular shell 2 with a state where the sound absorbing member is closely contact with the partition walls, and outer peripheral parts 13 of the partition walls 6, 7 are fixed with welding S1. A chamfered faces 8a are formed to at least outer peripheral end parts of the sound absorbing member 8, whose outer peripheral end parts are adjacent to weld portions of the outer peripheral parts 13 of baffle plates 6, 7 with the shell 2.
