Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare a multiaxially reinforced liquid crystal polymer sheet by embedding oriented particles containing a first liquid crystal polymer with a high m.p. in a polymer matrix containing a second liquid crystal polymer.
CONSTITUTION: Oriented particles of a second liquid crystal polymer wherein the greater part of a repeating structural unit is composed of a polyester derived from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and/or 2,6-hydroxynaphthoenic acid and a polymer matrix of a first liquid crystal polymer, wherein the greater part of a repeating structural unit is composed of a polyester derived from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and/or 2,6-hydroxynaphthoenic acid, having an m.p. higher than that of the second liquid crystal polymer are mixed. This mixture is heated to a temp. same as the m.p. of the second polymer and not higher than the m.p. of the first polymer to melt the second polymer before molding.
