NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-6 C alkyl or a 1-6 C alkoxyl; one of n and n' is 0 and the other is 1-4; X is O or S; R3 and R4 are each H or a 1-6 C alkyl; and Ar is an unsubstituted phenyl, 1- or 2-naphthyl, 2- or 3-thienyl or 2- or 3- or 5pyridyl group).
EXAMPLE: N-[2,6-bis(1-methylethyl)phenyl]-N'-(2-phenyl-2-propylpentyl)urea.
USE: A remedy for hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis. Has enzyme acyl coenzyme A: cholesterol acyl transferase inhibiting action.
PREPARATION: An isocyanate or thioisocyanate of formula II is reacted with an amine of formula III at room temperature to the boiling temperature of the solvent in an aprotic organic solvent (e.g. ethyl acetate) to obtain a compound of formula I.
