Abstract:
PURPOSE:To perform highly precise optical arithmetic processing, e.g. pattern recognition, associative storage, and parallel arithmetic processing by providing a display device such as a lens system for receiving an input image and a screen to the neural network circuit consisting of a two-dimensional lens array, a spatial optical modulating element, and an optical threshold element, and then forming the input image of various size to constant size and imposing spatial optical modulation. CONSTITUTION:The neural network circuit consists of the lens system 20 for receiving the input image, the screen 21 where the image formed by the lens system 20 is projected, the two-dimensional lens array 10 which forms images as many as neurone on the screen 21, the spatial optical modulating element 12 which is equivalent to the synapse coupling of nerve cells, and the optical threshold element 13 which calculates the sum of inputs and performs threshold processing. The lens system 20 moves in the direction of the optical axis to make the size of the input image constant.
