Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound useful for electrochemically determining the concentrations of saccharides or polyols, and usable for discriminating the asymmetry of diols for optically active one.

CONSTITUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I (1R and R2 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, phenyl or benzyl, where one of them being not H; R3 and R4 are each a 1-6C alkyl). The compound of formula I is obtained by the following process: a ferrocene derivative of formula II[e.g. (S)-(-)-N,N-dimethyl- ferrocenylethylamine] is treated with an excess amount (pref. 0.5-2 molar times) of butyllithium pref. at 0-50°C for 0.5-5h to effect lithiation, and the resultant lithiated ferrocene derivative of formula III is reacted with a boric ester of formula (R5O)3B (R5 is a 1-6C alkyl) pref. at -100 to 30°C for 1-30h followed by addition of water, and the resultant boric ester derivative is hydrolyzed.
