Abstract:

To obtain a specific new flavonoid derivative useful for treating/ preventing prostatomegaly and diseases involved therein such as dysuria, prostatic cancer and acnes as a nonsteroidal testosterone 5α-reductase inhibitor.

This new flavonoid derivative is isorhamnetin 3-O-robinobioside of the formula or a pharmaceutically permissible solvate thereof, being useful for treating and preventing prostatomegaly and diseases involved therein such as dysuria, prostatic cancer and acnes as a nonsteroidal testosterone 5α-reductase inhibitor. This flavonoid derivative is obtained by the following process: dried flowers of Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Miller as a crude drug are subjected to extraction with methanol followed by concentration, the resultant residues are then washed with petroleum ether followed by diethyl ether, and subjected to column chromatography using a polyamide support and an anino exchanger, paper chromatography and thin-layer chromatography each using water as solvent successively to effect purification.
