Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new phenothiazinium salt as a bactericide of aqueous effluents, which is not easily absorbed in soil components, etc., and is stable to active oxygen radicals.
CONSTITUTION: A 3,7-disubstd.-phenothiazinium salt of formula I [R1 is a saccharide residue; R2 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, etc.; Y is a bond, etc., when R1 and R2 are both methyl; X is a halogen, an anion of R3SO3 (R3 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.), etc.], e.g. 3,7-bis(N-methyl-N-β-glucopyranosylethylamino) phenothiazin-5-ium bromide. The compound is obtained, e.g. by condensing a methylamine derivative of formula II with a phenothiazinium perbromide of formula III.
