Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A 1-substituted theobromine of formula I: [R is lower alkyl, or (un)substituted phenyl group].
EXAMPLE: 1-(3-p-chlorobenzene sulfonylpropyl)-theobromine.
USE: Intermediates for the synthesis of medicines for giving 1-(5-oxohexyl) theobromine which is a vasodilator and hematocytolysis agent.
PROCESS: For example, one mole of 3-bromo-1-propanol is reacted with an alkali metal salt to give a compound of formula II, which is reacted with 1W5 moles, preferably 1W2 moles, of a compound of formula III in the presence of a tertiary amine, e.g. pyridine or trimethylamine, under basic conditions to form the compound of formula I.
