USE: Metabolism controlling agent, effective to decrease the urea nitrogen in blood and increase cholesterol. High activity and low side effects.

PROCESS: Clove is extracted with hydrous acetone, and concentrated. The concentrate is treated first with benzene, and then with ethyl acetate. Elution of the product with ethanol affords a compound of formula II (R is H.)
