NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is formula IIWIV (R2WR5 are H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, nitro, carboxyl, sulfonic acid, halogen, etc.; R6 is H, lower alkoxy, halogen or nitro; R7 is H, methyl or trifluoromethyl; R8 is H or halogen)].
USE: A substrate for measuring α-amylase activity applicable also to dry quantitative methods, since measurement can be made by colorimetry.
PREPARATION: An oligosaccharide derivative expressed by formula V is reacted with acetals, such as benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal, to form a cyclic acetal group between the 4- and the 6-positions of nonreducing terminal glucose. The resultant cyclic acetalized substance is then acylated to modify other OH groups. The modified compound is subsequently subjected to a reduction step and then deacylated.
