PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polymethacrylate polymer exhibiting good shear stability and efficient solubility to a lubricant base oil, a viscosity index improver containing the polymer, and a lubricant composition using the polymethacrylate polymer or the polymethacrylate viscosity index improver.SOLUTION: There are provided a novel polymethacrylate polymer having a ring structure in a main chain, a viscosity index improver containing the polymer, and further a lubricant composition. The polymer is manufactured by polymerizing (a) alkyl (meth)acrylate having an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, (b) alkyl (meth)acrylate having an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 6 to 40 carbon atoms and (c) a maleimide monomer represented by the general formula (1) as essential components, and the (a) component, (b) component and (c) component have predetermined content.
