Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject foam, having a high expansion ratio, high skin strength, flexural rigidity, operating efficiency, cushioning and heat insulating properties and useful as molded products, etc., by molding a specific expandable resin composition, exposing the molded product to ionizing radiation, cross- linking the molded product and thermally expanding the cross-linked molded product. CONSTITUTION:The objective foam is obtained by molding an expandable resin composition containing (A) 90-40 pts.wt. PE having >=0.926g/cm<3> density, (B) 10-60 pts.wt. straight-chainlike low-density PE (L-LDPE) having 0.918-0.940g/cm<3> density and (C) a thermal decomposition type foaming agent such as azodicarbonamide (added in an amount of preferably 5-25 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. resin component) and exposing the molded product to ionizing radiation such as #-rays at 0.5-20 Mrad, cross-linking the molded product and then thermally expanding the cross-linked molded product. The resultant foam has >=30cc/g expansion ratio. Furthermore, a cross-linking assistant such as divinylbenzene is preferably used in the above-mentioned composition.
