PURPOSE: To attain optical 2-way communication by switching in time division functions of light emission and photodetection of a photoelectric converting section.
CONSTITUTION: An optical signal from an optical fiber 31 is subject to photoelectric conversion by a converter 32 acting like an O/E at a prescribed condition, subject to equalization amplification, then electrooptic conversion by the converter 33 acting like an E/O and sent to the optical fiber 34. Further, the optical signal from the optical fiber 34 at other condition is subject to photoelectric conversion by the converter 33 acting like the O/E, subject to equalization amplification, then subject to electrooptic conversion by the converter 32 acting like the E/O and sent to the optical fiber 31. LEDs are used for the converters 232, 33 as light emitting elements and photodetectors and they act like photodetectors at reverse biasing.
