Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record/reproduce a disk having the format including different group constitutions, in the optical disk in which defect management is performed, without changing firmware of a conventional apparatus, and to set the size of a spare area when initialization is performed.
SOLUTION: In the optical disk in which a recording area is divided into a plurality of groups by a circular boundary, a plurality of defect management areas including information for controlling alternating process in the unit of defect reproduction recording are included in a recordable reproduction area. The defect management areas include information representing the ratio of the recording capacity of the spare area to the recording capacity of the prescribed group.
