To provide an optical film that is made of a resin containing a crystalline polymer with a positive intrinsic birefringence and has a small birefringence in a thickness direction.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical film includes the steps of: preparing a resin film made of a resin containing a crystalline polymer with a positive intrinsic birefringence (step i); and changing the birefringence in a thickness direction by bringing the resin film into contact with a solvent (ii).SELECTED DRAWING: None
