To obtain a bright displayed image with high contrast even when a special illumination source such as a back light and an edge light is not used by eliminating overlap of the displayed image with regular reflection of the light from an external light source.

An optical film 1 has a plurality of regions 2, 3 having different refractive indices in the film. The regions 2, 3 are disposed in stripes with each region having a thin and long form in one direction on the surface and have a structure of tilted layers in the thickness direction of the film. As for the light entering the film, the light made incident from the direction almost along the tilted direction of layers is totally reflected by the tilted interfaces of the layers 2, 3 having different refractive indices in the film and the propagation direction of the light is changed, and the light made incident from an other direction is transmitted through the film.
