Abstract:
To provide an optical isolator whose alignment is easy in an assembling stage without the need of an optical system consisting of lenses.
The optical isolator is equipped with a Faraday rotating element 7 which nonreciprocally rotates the plane of polarization of light and two polarizers 6 joined to both its sides, and the two polarizers 6 are both lenses which are machined to have spherical surfaces and converge or diverge lights transmitted through the polarizers 6 to form real or virtual images. The two polarizers 6 are joined together across the Faraday rotating element 7 and nearly spherical on the whole. Further, the two polarizers 6 are made of raw materials which are mutually different in refractive index.
