An optical module 10 includes an optical element 1 for changing an advancing direction of light, a light-receiving element 22 receiving light, and a mount substrate 23 to mount the optical element 1 and the light-receiving element 22. The optical element 1 has an outer shape of a columnar body 2, a condensing function surface 3a at one end 2b in the longitudinal direction of the columnar body 2, and a protrusion 5 protruding outward at the other end 2c in the longitudinal direction of the columnar body 2, and is in contact with the mount substrate 23. A light advancing direction change surface 4a, which obliquely intersects an optical axis 7 of the condensing function surface 3a and changes an advancing direction of the light condensed by the condensing function surface 3a into a direction toward the light-receiving element 22, is formed on the protrusion 5. The light-receiving element 22 is disposed in a space 6 formed between the protrusion 5 and the mount substrate 23.
